A popular pit stop for carb-light Chelsea girls & Brompton Cross shop assistants taking time out from the rigours of retail, chic Tartine makes its living from the eponymous open sandwiches backed by a weekly menu of girly sharing plates & more substantial dishes. If you’re nibbling, try tuna tartare, Caesar salad or hoummos with pitta; if you’re really hungry, go for something like sea bass with grilled vegetables & salsa verde. The long, narrow space is split into three: the bar area has a long pewter-topped table designed for sharing; the mid-section is a more intimate brown-boothed affair, while the back-end feels nocturnal with dim lighting, mirrored walls & high-backed black banquettes. Drinks-wise, there are fresh juices & tea-based smoothies, as well as plenty of wines by the glass.
