With its Osteria namesake round the corner now closed, bright & breezy Appennino offers a modern – if unsubtle – Italian experience, complete with chart music blaring from the speakers. Order a traditional bellini or Campari & orange as an appetite-sharpener, before moving on to the main culinary event. Rotisserie dishes are one of the kitchen’s mainstays – try spit-roast chicken with an unlikely piri-piri rub, radicchio & anchovy vinaigrette – but there’s also a decent crop of pizzas with some enterprising toppings such as bollito e mostarda (with ham hock & sweet fruity mustard) or manzo e rucola (sliced rump steak with rocket, spinach & parmesan). The usual suspects are there for pud, including handmade tiramisu & pannacotta.
