Part of the Nicholson’s chain, this waterfront boozer doesn’t stray too far from the classic English pub blueprint – although it’s a world away from spit & sawdust. Instead, it has sprays of flowers on the bar, swirly wallpaper, heavy drapes & lots of dark wood & cosy leather chairs to get lost in. With choices on the pumps including St Austell Tribute, London Pride & Doom Bar, it’s a place for a proper pint not just somewhere to swill back the usual Peroni, Foster’s & Beck’s (though you can do that too). Pub classics such as gammon & chips, Cumberland sausages & generously proportioned sandwiches dominate a menu of good, solid fare at affordable prices. Things can get busy at peak times, so be prepared to fight for your spot at the bar.
