Perhaps it’s the discreet entrance or maybe the soothing decor in the restaurant’s pastel-coloured upstairs dining room, but whatever the reason, Thomas’ has the air of a relaxed hideaway, removed from the City’s bustle despite a plum location above Leadenhall Market. The menu is not modish but does change regularly, so you could start with six rock oysters or perhaps a creamy leek tart with poached egg, then move on to cider-braised pork belly with mash & savoy cabbage or grilled sea bass with braised new potatoes with tarragon & tomato salsa. Desserts are resolutely traditional & the short wine list kicks off with £15 house selections before scaling dizzier French heights.
