Chowki

I prefer this much more to Mela their sister branch. The food is seasonal and the menu changes highlighting different regions of India. The value is great as you get rice/brad/dal with your meal. I have already been here 4 times and the food has been good. They can improve on their service and the wooden benches we had to sit on. Otherwise i would definitely recommend this!

I have visited Chowki on several occasions and found it to be a great walk in, quick bite to eat type of environment. I particularly like the descriptions given to the different regions and guide to the cuisine to be found around India. Curries are not served in Ghee soup and the service is generally good.

My only complaint given my recent visit was the hike in prices – what was once a tasty, excellent value for money meal now has to be judged in a higher category and against other restaurants in the area. A main meal for two with poppadums and a beer is now in the £50 area which I feel is a little excessive for what it is.

My last visit to Chowki was a terrible experience.
I ordered a Festive menu which tasted was good. But towards the end of my meal I found a piece of Glass( the restaurant claims its plastic) in my rice. I was obviously annoyed by the experience and raised it with the Waiter. One of them checked the piece and verified something in Kitchen. He told that it wasnt Glass but clear plastic , though neither of it should be found in food. Till now all was fine as it could be a one off mistake.

But the problem is the Manager, he told us that we need not pay the bill and he was sorry . Once we were out of the restaurant , to my surprise ,he told that it wasnt Glass and I shouldnt have reacted the way I did .
So my conclusion is , the manager of the restaurant expects foreign bodies like plastics and glass in the food , but customer should react according to the material he/she found.

I've never written one of these review things before but today felt compelled! I just ordered the most delicious lunch. I ordered the grilled platter as I felt I hadn’t been eating very healthily for a few days so thought I'd indulge in something a little different. Cant recommend it highly enough. Tastiest lunch I've had in ages.
