The Soho Pizzeria

Little changes at this Soho stalwart, where the pizzas all cost under £8 & the most expensive wine on the short Italian list (a whole litre of Chianti) is just £20.50. Toppings may be standard – spicy sausage & red peppers or ham, egg, olives & capers – but the pizzas have a freshness that can be lacking in the chains & there are a few salads & pastas, plus typical starters (mixed antipasto, garlic mushrooms) & puds (tiramisu, chocolate fudge cake) to widen the appeal. Service can be brusque, but it’s a bright, chatter-filled room, with windows on two sides & a little stage that plays host to a pianist every night but Sunday.
