The Edgware Road isn’t exactly short of skewered-meat venues, but this lovely Persian eatery is a prime exponent of the genre. In the window sits a clay oven, from where emerge warm pillowy breads covered in sesame seeds: ideal for scooping up fried aubergine & yoghurt purée or own-made hoummos. Follow these with a grilled lamb dish, or opt for Persian specialities such as duck breast in walnut & pomegranate sauce, perhaps accompanied by dogh, a refreshing yoghurt drink. Sugar-laden Persian desserts provide a sweet conclusion. Positioned at the St John’s Wood end of Edgware Road, the restaurant doesn’t have the bustle of its southern neighbours, but remains a great bet for decent inexpensive food. You can even BYOB – all part of the Kandoo attitude here.
