Square Meal Review of Strada Earl's Court ?

A visit to Strada often surpasses expectations. On paper, it may be just another pizza chain, but its commitment to quality Italian cooking, not to mention vibrant surrounds & clued-up staff, puts it a notch above the competition. The oven-baked pizzas are a particular delight, boasting thin, crispy crusts made to a traditional recipe, & toppings that are a riot of colour & flavour. The ‘rustica’, for instance, features a heady mix of roasted Italian sausage, caramelised onions, tomatoes, artichokes & capers. Other mains are equally innovative – think risotto laden with chunky butternut squash, pancetta, pine nuts & wilted spinach, or a fillet of rosemary-stuffed sea bass; starters such as caprese & carpaccio keep things simple, & there’s fail-safe tiramisu to finish. Lunchtime portions can be ‘too small’, but Strada is reckoned to be ‘reasonably priced’ & ‘good enough for your Italian friends’.

Strada may not be a high-end culinary destination, but it certainly delilvers exactly what is expected. Reasonably priced, family-friendly, Italian food at decent prices (although there has been a substantial price increase of late). I have been eating at Strada's for years and apart from a few rare occasions where service was either a bit hurried or disorganised, I could not fault the food.

The pesto bread is one of my family and friends all time favourite ways to begin the meal. Selections of antipasti and my favourite beef carpaccio are all of a high standard. The pizzas are fired in a wood oven, producing a perfect crunchy rustic crust and the toppings are fresh, authentic and unlike other high street pizza chains with bizarre penchants for pineapple and chicken weirdness. My own Spaghetti Bolognese was simple, tasty and plated as a huge portion, whilst my guests Chicken Milanese was also delicious but again very large in size. Well at least that is some kind of value, luckily they wrapped up the massive portions of uneaten food for us to take home which was a very nice touch. Service was friendly, swift and very sincere. Glad Strada are on the scene, they knock the socks of Zizzi, Ask and Pizza Express in my humble opinion.
