When The Real Greek opened it was driven by owner Theodore Kyriakou’s utter passion for all things Hellenic. Kyriakou has gone, & now the menu is focused on basic mezze & souvlaki rather than more substantial & sophisticated main courses. Classics such as top-class taramasalata, tzatziki & slow-cooked gigantes (giant beans) in rich tomato sauce now share menu space with some less familiar choices, including tahini chicken wings, grilled calamari marinated in paprika & honey & beer-battered salt cod. It’s popular with young groups after work who wash down plates with bottles of Mythos beer, & take advantage of the value for money. And if your only experience of Greek wine has been toe-curling retsina, then it’s well worth getting stuck in to the wine list here.
