It’s a typical evening at The Endurance: the Madchester-era juke box is playing cracking indie/classic grooves, the decibels are rising, & the ‘usual mix of fun people you find in Soho’ – skinny-jeaned waifs, budding film stars, cliquey musos, cod philosophers, know-it-alls & who-knows-whats – are engaged in competitive ranting, fuelled by copious pints of Red Stripe, Leffe & Deuchars. For a less frenetic experience, drop by during the day for some decent grub – think goats’ cheese & red-pepper tart, Toulouse sausages on mash, pork saltimbocca, vegetable stew, linguine with chorizo, & fruit crumbles from a hard-to-fault Brit/Med menu served at lunchtime only. A dozen or so approachable wines include organic French Merlot, Granfort rosé & Kiwi Sauvignon Blanc in a low-key, stripped-back room that is always good value.
