The Waterway

The Waterway’s USP is its vast canal-side terrace, which is packed to the gills from spring through to autumn. Sadly, though, there are few other redeeming features. Yes, the interior is pleasant, divided between a cosy bar area with an open fire & sofas, & a clean-lined dining area; but staff are ‘rude & unaccommodating’ with customer service appearing to be the last thing on their minds. The food is also very disappointing, with under-seasoned burgers, overdressed Caesar salads with char-grilled chicken, gristly rib-eye steaks & bland pumpkin & walnut risotto. Best, then, to stick to the bar, where draught options include Beck’s Vier & Adnams alongside a short but well-rounded selection of wines – though expect a long wait for service.
