Perching right on the banks of the canal, The Waterway lays claim to one of London’s best alfresco spots. Three decked terraces overlook the water; come early to nab a table as they go like hot cakes when the sun peaks from behind the clouds. Inside is a smart dining room. Given the unmatched setting & guaranteed crowds, it appears the management’s policy is to whack up the prices. Bank on paying in excess of £4 for pints of Staropramen, bottles of Corona or 175ml glasses of house white – not that the affluent Maida Vale/Notting Hill punters seem to mind. Hit-&-miss food (we’d stick to burgers on the terrace) can feel pricey too, though it’s the ‘unfriendly’, ‘unhelpful’ staff that seem to be the biggest downers – a perennial problem here.
