Though knocked off its Michelin-starred perch in 2007, the response of readers to the much-needed refurb of this suburban dining hot-spot has been one of high regard & great relief. But the near universal praise for the chic redo, with its cream & red colour scheme, does not always extend to service, which can be a tad slow, disorganised & occasionally pompous. Gripes, however, are few when it comes to the beautifully presented food. Ravioli of lobster & king prawn with spiced cabbage or lobster & lemongrass veloute might be followed by perfectly pink cannon of lamb with confit shoulder, barigoule sauce & ratatouille. The excellent lemon tart is a top choice for dessert, though there’s also a textbook chocolate fondant. Fair pricing & an extensive wine list also count in Chapter One’s favour.
