Square Meal review of Market Place:
Market Place is invariably packed, the action spilling out onto the street most evenings. Its popularity isn’t hard to fathom: this is a damn fine late-night music bar (ranging across garage, electro, reggae, Northern Soul & disco) frequented by up-for-it local workers. The look is warehouse canteen meets Scandinavian sauna, with lager the drink of choice: Sagres, Moretti, Erdinger Weissbier or Cruzcampo are the ones to go for. Fifteen wines include entry-level house red or white at a palatable £12.50, while cocktails hover around £6. Bites range from tapas to bargain burgers with a twist: go for the Cuban, a lamb patty marinated in mint chimmichurri served with a yellow-pepper salad in a sourdough bun (£6.50).
