Much loved by media types & Notting Hill luvvies, the Electric is still a safe pair of hands for fizzy, brasserie-style dining with a side order of celeb-spotting. Opt for a table at the back if discreet conversation is on the agenda; otherwise, the high-decibel bar is the place to be. As the ‘brasserie’ tag suggests, there’s a distinctly French feel to both food & service: expect steak-frites & fruits de mer delivered comme il faut by waistcoated waiters in white aprons. But this is west London, not the Rive Gauche, so you’ll also find comfort-food staples such as fish-finger sandwiches, pasta & burgers. Mr Cameron may not approve of the coffee & hazelnut version of Eton mess, but to one reader it’s worthy of ‘desert island’ status. Fixed-price lunches are a steal.
