Square Meal review of Notting Grill: 
The original outpost of Antony Worrall Thompson’s posh neighbourhood mini-chain (branches in Barnes & Kew) is perfectly attuned to the Holland Park tempo with its faded jewel colours & retro bohemian feel. Seafood starters such as potted shrimps, pan-fried jumbo prawns, chilli salt squid & herring roes on toast lead on to mains that are red in tooth & claw: burgers with all the trimmings, five cuts of steak with chips & classic sauces, & the house special of Middle White suckling pig with apple chilli jelly. Non-meat mains are restricted to salmon & smoked haddock fishcakes; vegetarians should look elsewhere. Those who like the straightforward style of cooking & emphasis on provenance – meat aged for 35 days, pork from AWT’s own farm – but find themselves uncharmed by the man himself should avert their eyes at the entrance, where there is a stand of Worrall Thompson merchandise on sale.
Chef: Antony Worrall Thompson
Antony Worrall Thompson studied hotel & catering management at Westminster College before opening his first restaurant, the saucily named Menage a Trois. Serving only starters and desserts, it received fantastic reviews & was rumoured to be one of Princess Diana’s favourites. A string of highly successful restaurants ensued, including One Ninety Queen’s Gate, before he launched Notting Grill in Holland Park, specialising in organic meat, fish & vegetables, in 1997. He has since added Barnes Grill & Kew Grill to his stable as well as several gastropubs outside the capital. Well known for fronting BBC2’s Food & Drink programme, he now presents Saturday Morning Kitchen.
