Freshened up with new furniture & a sultry mix of grey, black & gold hues, Tsunami looks ready to reassert itself among Clapham’s cognoscenti. This modern Japanese eatery may be something of an old hand in the fashionable restaurant stakes, but the cooking is as fresh as ever, with the emphasis on clean strong flavours & beautiful presentation. Dishes are modishly intended for grazing & sharing & the kitchen is happy to cross borders & break with convention. Zingy ‘new-style’ salmon sashimi is seared in olive oil & drizzled with ponzu sauce, lamb is served with oriental mushrooms, creamed leeks & wasabi pepper sauce, & there’s ‘awesome’ sushi for those who want it. Warm & cold sakés are on offer, although most of the sparkly crowd seem to head for the white wines & cocktails. A swish new bar with a 2am licence at weekends is an added bonus.

This has always been a favourite of my husband and I. Excellent Sushi and Sashimi with some inventiveness (see Foisgras and chive cut roll). The flaming scallop with spicy sauce is a masterpiece and excellent combination of flavours. Yes, it is getting a bit tired in atmosphere, but when you think its about half of the price of Zuma and Roka it is definitely not half the value.

Tsunami is a fantastic local restaurant – although the prices are West End – where the food is always the best quality I have ever found. The restaurant has a nice atmosphere and never feels too cluttered or noisy. The service is fine, if a little slow at busy times. The food turnaround time is good and the dishes tend to be staggered well so you don't get all the dishes at once.

It is a pricey treat of a place, perfect for a special occasion, with the the best quality sushi that I have found in London, without the poncy atmosphere!

Tsunami is the worst restaurant I have been to date. Appalling service. I booked a table several days in advance and as we were a large group & pre-ordered the appetisers to make it easy(A total around 10 dishes for nine people to share) It was a different story when at the restaurant. We waited for nearly an hour appetisers. I asked several times, when we were going to be brought out some food as most of the group was extremely hungry. I also had to repeatedly ask for water/drinks, as after asking for bottles of red and white wine for the table, only one bottle for white arrived, with 9 people in group it did not go far. Finally appetisers arrived – 1 plate. I asked but I was told it was made for sharing!! 1 plate betw 9 again does not go very far, & it was chicken which completely excluded the vegetarians in the group. Finally another plate of food arrived “made for sharing”, and then maybe 20 minutes later the third. I was ignored by the waiter. To make matters worse, one of us received main straight after this; with out any sides and a half an hour before the group. Finally mains started to arrive, but no sides.I waited again for about 30min for rice and in the end sent back main because it was cold. By then we asked to the bill as we had enough of the appalling service. Again this process took about an hour. At stage slightly annoyed by the lack of attention, we asked to speak to the manager re bill as some appetisers and sides ever made it to the table. He refused to come to table & discuss – extremely rude. In the end it finally got sorted but not without stress and upset. What could have been a fantastic night with friends, all willing to pay a lot for a nice meal, good atmosphere, good drinks but the restaurant ruined it! I the food is designed for sharing, but forgive me for thinking it’s impossible to share 1 small plate between 9 with no plates. That’s just bad manners! In light of current economic conditions it’s not the way to… More
