The Wallace

Titian, Velazquez & Rembrandt are some of the masters on display at the Wallace Collection, where you’ll find this light & airy atrium restaurant. Split into a cafe & brasserie by tree-lined paths, the huge glass-roofed dining room has an alfresco feel with rickety wire chairs littered with linen cushions & silk parasols. The French menu lives up to both the decor & the exquisite works of art, though prices are on the high side. Spiced scallops with avruga caviar vinaigrette or duck salad with Puy lentils both start a meal nicely, while main courses of roast monkfish with wild rice, & lamb cutlet with aubergine caviar, though less accomplished, are still good. Open for lunch, the restaurant serves dinner on Friday & Saturday nights, when a monthly changing three-course menu highlights dishes from the regions of France. Another way to appreciate The Wallace is with afternoon tea, supplied by Oliver Peyton’s retro bakery Peyton & Byrne.
