Square Meal review of Zilli Fish:
TV-chef Aldo Zilli’s paean to fish is a friendly affair on the quieter side of Soho, handsomely done up with stone floors & leather chairs. When the menu declares that the head chef goes to Billingsgate Market at 4.30am to pick the best seasonal fish, high expectations are unavoidable. Fortunately they tend to be met: a generous starter platter combines super-size king prawns, battered squid rings & mussels & clams in a rich cooking liquor made for bread-dunking. What follows might be plump pan-fried halibut with beetroot & potato rosti, or garlic & chilli-marinated monkfish medallions with char-grilled courgettes & roasted red peppers. There’s a predominantly Italian wine list, & enthusiastic, knowledgeable staff – both of which help to make the high prices easier to swallow.
