It has had a spruce-up, with a lick of burgundy paint lending warmth to the small, simple room, but essentially this canteen-style Thai eatery stays the same – & there’s nothing wrong with that. The sturdy wooden benches are frequently packed with Hoxton locals & the crowds that flock to the square to drink & dance every weekend. Yelo serves decent food at very decent prices (mains cost around £6), with no fuss or frills. There are the usual nibbles, from steamed dim sum to chicken satay, along with curries & stir fries (with a choice of meat, beancurd or prawns), & salads zingy with lime juice. Wines cover the usual bases, there are bottles of Singha & Tiger beer, & if everything becomes hectic, you can simply pop in for a takeaway or phone for delivery.
