Big & jovial, The William IV brings a much-needed spark to the soulless area between Willesden Junction & Kensal Rise. It’s bright, bouncy & perfect for the young crowd who adore the retro-chic furnishings. There has been a change in the kitchen of late, & the focus is now on luxe European & Asian flavours such as seared tuna with Vietnamese salad, or chicken, foie gras & wild mushroom terrine to start, then baked cod with chorizo, finishing with pear & cardamom cake. Well-chosen wines (from £15 Chenin Blanc to £40 Pouilly-Fuissé) provide the accompaniment. Check out the bar menu for less chi-chi burgers (beef, chicken or veggie) & charcuterie plates – a better match for the lagers & real ales. A pretty garden & four boutique bedrooms add further appeal.
