There’s a whiff of the sea about this bright, glassy Davy’s at St Katharine’s Dock, for despite the lack of direct views over water from its outdoor terrace, fish is the dish of the day. Tuck into a starter of smoked mackerel pate with orange, mixed leaves & warm toast or perhaps potted crab before tackling the line-caught Icelandic haddock & chips with mushy peas, or the poached organic Shetland sea trout with salad & hot buttered potatoes. The labyrinthine basement Ale & Port House is more familiar Davy’s territory, with Chesterfield sofas & Windsor chairs, lots of wine paraphernalia & a hearty menu that includes bangers & mash or rib-eye steaks. Robust puds are available upstairs & down, & there’s plenty of affordable glugging from the Davy’s wine list.
