Uli is a pan-Asian restaurant, but in the literal sense: instead of meshing together cuisines that have little in common to create new fusion dishes, the menu simply offers the best that the orient has to offer: Singapore laksa, Balinese-style baked fish, Thai seafood salad & Mongolian lamb in lettuce cups, say, alongside the less familiar likes of a piquant Fujian pork dish. It’s a simple approach that has won Uli a loyal local following, & though the quality of cooking can sometimes be uneven, hits outweigh misses & the charming service from the husband & wife team ensures that most diners leave with a smile on their face. The light & airy modern dining room is brightened by cheerful cushions, with the sunniest spot on a glass-roofed patio at the back.
