Although it’s been doing its thing for a decade, Sophie’s Steakhouse remains as unwaveringly cool & trendy as ever. Its original mission statement was all-round accessibility, & you’re likely to see groups of girls sipping cocktails at the bar (the chilli martini is recommended) as well as boisterous businessmen devouring dry-aged rib-eyes in a gritty setting of stripped-back walls, dangling filament bulbs & blood-red banquettes. But the menu isn’t simply about steaks: you can also get pan-fried prawns or char-grilled sea bass fillet, as well as pies, ribs & spit-roast chicken – & they do ‘brilliant mash’, by all accounts. For liquid refreshment, pick something suitable from the carefully assembled wine list. No bookings, so expect to queue at peak times.
