A cosy little neighbourhood eatery behind Kensington’s main drag, The Terrace is the sort of place where you’d imagine stumbling across Hugh Grant’s character in Notting Hill. Comprising just one room, looking out onto a quiet cobbled street opposite a picture-postcard old pub, it serves a tidy menu of mainstream European dishes along the lines of honey-roast duck breast with celeriac cake or rosemary-marinated rack of lamb with tarragon & red wine sauce, but isn’t afraid to offer up a good old prawn cocktail, too. The interior feels smart & very W8, while the eponymous terrace is sheltered with plants & has heaters for when the nights draw in. Bargain two-course set lunches (£14.50) should allow some spare change if you want to take advantage of the rather pricey wine list.
