The Tas chain is slowly growing, thanks to a well-deserved reputation for serving terrific Turkish food in pleasant surroundings. Hot & cold mezzes such as kisir (a salad made from walnuts, hazelnuts, bulgur, tomatoes & herbs), homemade taramasalata (unattractively described on the menu as ‘fish paste’) or sucuk izgara (grilled garlicky sausages) make a good starter or even a light meal. Mains are hearty: karisik guvech, for example, is a stew of prawns, mussels & cod. Try one of the exemplary koftes or kebabs or choose among four very reasonably priced & substantial set menus. Service is unfailingly sweet & helpful, & staff take the time to guide novices through the menu. As ever, the main problem with reasonably priced restaurants serving quality food is that tables are in high demand: book ahead.
