Square Meal Review of Tas ?

A tas is a traditional Turkish cooking pot, & the popular mini-chain that bears its name aims to recreate some of the warmth of home with its welcoming vibe & honest food. You may not be curled up chez vous, but the relaxed yet spruce surrounds & attentive service should make youfeel pretty comfortable. Hot & cold mezze coverthe familiar bases such as dolma (stuffed vine leaves), calamari & hoummos, as well as more upbeat ideas including tutsulu somon (smoked salmon with parsley, onion & tomato salad & pomegranate sauce). Big meaty shish, kofte & steaks arrive from the grill & the menu also extends to veggie mains, fish dishes & casseroles such as bademli tavuk (chicken with almonds, green peppers & tomatoes). Good-value set menus, too.

I chose this place to go on a first date as my friend recommended it – it was a good choice!

Fantastic mix of brick and wood architecture inside, plants and cushioned cane furniture outside. We started off in the bar had some nice, well made cocktails – just the usual range of cocktails, nothing fancy or unique.
Music was good and at the right level for having a conversation (this might be different on the weekend however).

Then we went to the restaurant which is through a doorway in the middle or can be accessed from the front.
We chose the £10.75 Meze deal where they brought along lots and lots of small dishes of different flavours, very tasty and filling!

Even without the deal I thought the prices were very reasonable.

I can thoroughly recommend this place for food or drink as well as a good atmosphere.

Went to Tas after a night out at the IMAX – only about a ten minute walk away and a good alternative to some of the pricier options near the South Bank eg Skylon. Food is good, big portions and tasty and the place is almost always busy. We had free bread and tahini on the table as we arrived. Starters were big and tasty – fresh falafel and also feta cheese parcels (slightly lacking in taste) but still good portions. Our mains were big meaty mixed grills and another lamb dish, all again presented extremely well. I passed on pudding because we sat near the seventies style cabinet where they were sitting, wrapped in cling film, and this put me off slightly! Otherwise, the bill came to £44 for three starters and two mains plus drinks. I'd definitely recommend this as a great place post theatre – we were done in 45 mins and got home relatively quickly and nicely full! Not the best middle Eastern out there (Ozer in Oxford Circus and Al Waha in Queensway are both far better) but still one of the good ones worth a visit.
