Square Meal review of Suka:

Suka opened on the former Spoon site at the ultra-hip Sanderson hotel in spring 2007 &, while the restaurant looked far lovelier than its predecessor – furnished with sleek shared tables & low-hanging Philippe Starck lamps – the modern Malaysian food didn’t hit the high notes. A rethink in the kitchen, however, has improved food quality, while the layout of the grazing menu is now easier to navigate. Flavours are strong & distinctive; highlights including nasi goreng (fried rice with a spicy chilli kick, topped with a fried egg), king prawns in a buttery masala sauce, battered soft-shell crab in a thick chilli sauce & slices of seared steak with a zingy onion salad on the side. Prices remain steep & the dining room suffers the same audible intrusion from the Long Bar’s pumping soundtrack that Spoon did. Still, for a taste of modern Malaysian served up in glam surrounds, Suka fits the bill.
