Sofra Covent Garden

Very good value and well-cooked Turkish food and in surroundings which are much classier and stylish than you have any right to expect at this price level. Some of the desserts are a bit odd and don't order the chips instead of salad with your main course. Service is usually excellent and friendly. Can get very busy so the usual fast service may get overwhelmed when there are large numbers eating there. Deservedly very popular for excellent value food in an expensive area. It seems to be in several American food guides so if you object to being near loud-mouthed, badly-dressed Americans talking rubbish near you, be careful where you sit!

We booked a table for 8, pre theatre at 6pm on a Saturday. The only good aspect was that they gave us a round table. It took 15 minutes to get 2 bottles of wine (no ice bucket), an hour later we got the first course and then the main course almost came at the same time. The service was incredibly slow, the restaurant was baking hot and they had to offer us the alternative of coming back for dessert and coffee after the show or taking doggie bags to the theatre! Non of which worked for us. I usually like Sofra's food and value for money, but do not go if you are a group on a time scale! Nightmare. The bill was £35 per head (set menu, wine, no coffee and crappy sweets which landed up in the bin outside the theatre). Overpriced and underdelivered! Disappointing. Sue

A great place for a quick, tasty and bargain lunch. The two of us enjoyed the Mezze platter to share (plentiful) with a delightful bottle of house red. Service was attentive, but unnoticed. Including deserts and coffees it was just over £50. Absolute bargain and I'll be going back again and again
