Square Meal review of Sofra: ? Write your own review

Though best known for serving a comprehensive selection of Turkish specialities, the Sofra chain has recently been dipping into the Med & Asia, offering the likes of tomato & mozzarella salad or duck roll alongside your mezze of stuffed vine leaves & baba gannouj. The meats from the grill deserve special mention, including excellent lamb kofte, while healthier dishes such as falafel & hoummos have their own section, as do lighter meals & vegetarian options. There’s widespread praise both for service & prices.

We booked a table for 8, pre theatre at 6pm on a Saturday. The only good aspect was that they gave us a round table. It took 15 minutes to get 2 bottles of wine (no ice bucket), an hour later we got the first course and then the main course almost came at the same time. The service was incredibly slow, the restaurant was baking hot and they had to offer us the alternative of coming back for dessert and coffee after the show or taking doggie bags to the theatre! Non of which worked for us. I usually like Sofra's food and value for money, but do not go if you are a group on a time scale! Nightmare. The bill was £35 per head (set menu, wine, no coffee and crappy sweets which landed up in the bin outside the theatre). Overpriced and underdelivered! Disappointing. Sue

A great place for a quick, tasty and bargain lunch. The two of us enjoyed the Mezze platter to share (plentiful) with a delightful bottle of house red. Service was attentive, but unnoticed. Including deserts and coffees it was just over £50. Absolute bargain and I'll be going back again and again
