Square Meal Review of Shaws Booksellers ?

In years gone by, this former mill churned out paper for the finest Fleet Street rags; now it churns out fresh food cooked from scratch, together with the full range of tried & tested Fuller’s ales. These days, newspapers are read rather than produced here, but beyond the pea-green frontage many of the original features remain, including an iron hoist & a wooden staircase which leads nowhere (tricking confused drinkers looking for the loo). Following a revamp, the menu now features more substantial food at lunchtime, including rustic rabbit pappardelle & a juicy beef & chilli burger with fat chips. In the evening, businessmen & creative types supplement their pints of London Pride with tapas-style nibbles.

Shaws Booksellers is a cracking little gastro pub in Blackfriars. I had a quick lunch with a client from a bank in the area. Lovely atmospheric boozer with top notch food being served. They do the simple things right. I had the pan fried salmon, lentils and spinach. Nothing fancy but boy was it good. The salmon was beautifully done and excellent presented. Top marks and I will be back as i have always struggled to find a good gastro pub in the city. Sometimes you just need to pat a good place on the back!

Great place to go for relaxed atmosphere, with fantastic freshly cooked food. Meat and veggie options. Bar staff very friendly, attentive, welcoming and accommodating. Excellent wine list. An all round fab place to go for a well cook lunch and gossip / business. Service is not fast due to the food being freshly cooked – but we dont mind that do we! To summarise: Fresh seasonal food served in a clean, friendly enviroment! Keep up the good work shaws.
