Recently redesigned, with groovy orange pods replacing the communal seating, both upstairs & down, Satsuma has also refocused food-wise. As well as sushi, soba noodles & donburi, the wide-ranging & slightly confusing menu offers a dozen kinds of katsu curry, from pork or chicken to soft-shell crab, with a separate section showing katsu pork, scallop, even oysters – a hard one to pull off. Some of the food is fine, but some of it – beef teriyaki, for example – can lack flavour. Service is willing but uninformed: a request for a salmon & avocado hand roll has been known to bring maki rolls instead. As well as Asahi, Sapporo & Kirin beers, there are 10 wines by the glass, including Prosecco & umehsu (made from plums); fruit juices are fresh, as advertised.
