Unashamedly upmarket Santini has been rolling out the red carpet & catering to the whims of the rich & famous since 1984 – Margaret Thatcher, Tom Cruise & Prince Andrew have all visited down the years. It’s not the swinging hit it once was but there’s still a steady flow of Belgravia locals & executives on expenses, who appreciate the classy, low-key surrounds & don’t bat an eyelid at the prices. The menu has a Venetian accent & covers everything from smoked tuna carpaccio & slow-cooked globe artichoke to seafood risotto & homemade pastas (perhaps tagliolini with Cornish crab). Mains of lamb chops with white wine, rosemary & grapes or fillet steak with Barolo butter are predictably expensive, as is the exclusively Italian wine list. The romantic terrace – all fairy lights & olive trees – is the place to be on warm summer evenings.
