Although hidden in the cobbled passages of Lancashire Court, Rocket’s casual all-day ethos is more about party than privacy. Members of Mayfair society pull up at high-visibility outdoor tables, get lost in the warren-like, multi-room bar, or make it upstairs, where the dining room’s triple-height glass ceilings can’t nullify the babble or the high-octane clatter of an open kitchen. Food comes fast, with wood-fired pizzas including smoked chicken & caramelised baby onions over-hanging their already considerable plates, & ‘very tasty’ signature salad creations piled into bulky bowls (try fried prawns & baby squid with rare-seared beef fillet). Such mighty helpings may render desserts like raspberry & vanilla cheesecake superfluous or unmanageable. A modest, well-informed wine list starts at £16.25, while cocktails – like the atmosphere – are loud & in your face.
