Synonymous with high living since 1906, The Ritz’s cocktail lounge is a bijou jewel box of a place – all art-deco opulence with camphor-wood walls, illuminated Lalique glass and patterned mirrors beneath gilded ceiling domes. Luxury and lofty prices are a given, but you’re paying for class whether you are shelling out a pretty penny for a bottle of Cristal Rosé and a pot of caviar or picking something humbler – perhaps a classic club sandwich or niçoise salad with a glass from the exclusive wine list. However, cocktails are the star turns here – from the glamorously named Mary Pickford (Zacapa 23 rum, lime and pineapple cordial, maraschino cherry liquor and pomegranate syrup) to Ramos Gin Fizz presented in a golden goose egg perched within and edible caramel nest. Everything is served impeccably by dapper staff in pristine white tuxedos.
