Square Meal review of Richard Corrigan at Lindsay House:

Lindsay House has always felt more like a private home than a restaurant: you have to ring the doorbell to gain admittance & are ushered into one of two small dining rooms with fireplaces & oil paintings. Corrigan’s ‘robust & utterly sublime’ food can be sampled in several ways: in a seasonal market menu (which might include gutsy smoked eel with cider apple jelly & crispy bacon, then stuffed pig’s trotters & caramelised sweetbreads; three courses £56), a six-course tasting menu (roast duck breast with Szechuan pepper & spiced plum jam; £68 or £110 with wine), & a three-course set menu at £27, which is ideal for business lunches. But while there are few complaints about the cooking, which provides an earthy satisfaction often absent from fine dining, slow service remains a bugbear. Still, the general consensus is that Lindsay House is ‘always excellent, delivering time after time’. Notable private rooms, too.
Chef: Richard Corrigan
Since leaving his native Ireland at the age of 17, Richard Corrigan has gone on to become one of the most assured chefs on the London scene. These days he’s best known to the wider public through the BBC series Great British Menu but he kick-started his career under Michel Lorrain at the Meridian Hotel in Piccadilly in 1985, before becoming head chef at Stephen Bull’s Blandford Street restaurant. Foodies took note of his skilful rustic cuisine after he won a Michelin star at the famous Fulham Road restaurant in 1994, & paid even more attention when he repeated the feat at Lindsay House in 1999, two years after moving there. More recently he’s won plaudits for revitalising the fortunes of Bentley’s. In 2006 he teamed up with Ryanair founder Tony Ryan to open the Mill at Lyons restaurant, near Celbridge in County Kildare, Ireland & 2008 will see him open a restaurant at London’s Grosvenor House hotel.
