Square Meal Review of Rainforest Cafe ?

OK, so you’re not going to come here without children, but if you’re looking for some theme-park family chow, Rainforest Café beats a burger bar hands down. Once you’ve fought your way through the cuddly merchandise inside the door, you descend into faux undergrowth, past lurking life-size gorillas & giant butterflies with trippy flapping wings. It’s a huge place, with plentiful staff who are good on allergies & excellent with tempestuous toddlers. Children’s dishes include spaghetti with tomato sauce, dairy-free penne bolognese, meatballs, pizzas, & proper jelly & ice cream. There’s a long, American-themed main menu, too, offering salads, teen-pleasing BBQ favourites, chilli, noodles & ‘rasta pasta’, while a fair range of cocktails, beers & wines will help take the edge off the monkey noises & the thunder & downpour effects.

I ate in this restaurant with a friend in July of this year. The decor is lovely but only suitable for children and children's birthday parties. I ordered a steak which was the worst steak I ever received in any restaurant. It was so tough I had to chew each piece approximately 20 times. It was served with just creamed potatoes and no vegetables. It was so inedible that I had to send it back. The service staff were gracious and offered me an alternative dish.

However, I also feel this restaurant is overpriced and you are certainly paying for the decor and animal sound effects. IOn this basis I would only recommend it for children and not for adults.

We had reservations but still had to stand in line for 15 mins, and then had to line up all over again for our actual table! Out of 4 adults, only one of us was satisfied with their food. Two of us had burgers, bad choice, because they were obviously precooked & microwaved. Chewy, dry, tasteless-disgusting. The third person had the congo pasta which tasted literally like spaghetti with ketchup. We also had 2 kids in our group, one of whom had a birthday. The waiter ‘planted’ the candle in Joseph's Ice-cream sundae(ice cream with chocolate sauce), lit it right in front him (terrible birthday etiquette) announced to everyone that he was nine (he was actually eight!), but then bravely sang happy birthday pretty much by himself because by this time we had all had enough! Great for kids – terrible for adults
