Square Meal Review of Quo Vadis ?

‘My, haven’t you aged well?’, quipped one visitor after a trip to rejuvenated Quo Vadis. With the Hart brothers at the helm and Jeremy Lee in the kitchen, this Soho legend has been fabulously restored and re-energised – you can feel the humming metropolitan vibe and ‘quirky, polished charm’ oozing from the dining room. Chic off-white colours, gilt mirrors, original stained-glass panels and floral extravaganzas set the scene for some ‘flawless’ seasonal cooking championing British food. Spring could see plump salmon in sorrel sauce with buttery mash, summer might bring a delicate plate of garlic shoots, crushed olives, peas and mint, while autumn heralds warm wild-duck salad or Hereford sirloin with ceps and parsley. Fixtures include rich nourishing pies (teal, bacon and prune, for example), and desserts hit the hedgerows for bramble trifle or buttermilk pudding with damsons. It’s ‘not cheap’, but tickety-boo service and intelligent wine suggestions complete a top-drawer offer.

Frenchy love food :: QUO VADIS

This week I had lunch for the first time at Quo Vadis. I really like the entrance decoration with a massive table and a floral selection on top of it. My friend and I didn't have any booking but we manage to get a table, the staff was very friendly from the hostess at the entrance to our waiter. Decoration on the table was quite simple but very cute, table cloth and flowers. To start I opted for the spalla served with pear and fennel salad while my friend had the salt cod, sea kale and butter sauce. I found the balance of the sweet pear and salted spalla very interesting. It was very good, and light, I will keep in mind this recipe to try it again at home. My friend really enjoy his starter, especially the butter sauce which was according to him excellent...

Samphire and Salsify :: Quo Vadis

Quo Vadis has a wonderful location right in the heart of Dean Street in Soho. Its stained glass windows give it the appearance of a private members club and it’s somewhere I’ve wanted to try for ages but have never got around to. I thought it would be the perfect place for a friend’s birthday dinner and luckily, I wasn’t wrong!...

  3. Quo Vadis is one of the eating establishments owned by Sam and Eddie Hart, who also own Barrafina and Fino. They clearly have and eye for good chefs and know how to run a restaurant. Quo Vadis is no exception in that sense. The service is exemplary, the decoration nice and the food of high standard. The cuisine at Quo Vadis is however different from Fino and Barrafina in that the latter two restaurants focus on Spanish cuisine whereas Quo Vadis is centred around modern British cuisine...

From 1992 until 1994 he was head chef at Alastair Little's Frith Street restaurant, & then launched Euphorium in Islington. From 1995 he was the driving force behind the Blueprint Cafe & became renowned for combining unusual textures & flavours to enhance the natural quality of ingredients.
