Square Meal review of Portrait Restaurant & Bar:
Even if you can’t get a table by the window, you’re still assured a cracking view over London – & Nelson’s Column in particular – at this sliver of a room on the top floor of the National Portrait Gallery. It’s simply furnished in black leather, while the modern British menu features dishes such as homemade crab cakes & Sussex pork cutlet on the brunch menu, or ham hock broth & saddle of rabbit on the a la carte. It’s all quite pricey, so if you fancy the views but not the outlay, check out the lounge menu (ploughman’s, Caesar salad) or indulge in a spot of afternoon tea. It’s also a lovely spot for a cocktail or glass of wine from the interesting global list at sundown.
