Naming a bar Punk, & then advertising reality show loser Donny Tourette as DJ for your first Saturday session is hardly anarchy in the UK. But then its owner, the Breakfast Group (aka Jerusalem, Salvador & Amanda et al), can’t be aiming the revamped Pop at gobby Sex Pistols, who’d no doubt sneer at oriental platters to share at £15 or Champagnes that outnumber white wines by two to one. Not that it’s without street cred: Bloc Party have played a gig here, hard-edged hooch includes Cuervo Gold Tequila & Buffalo Trace bourbon, while club nights take in edgy East End imports Tesco Disco & Anti-Social. The decor features oversized pinky flower prints inspired by Robert Mapplethorpe, backlit portraits of Sid Vicious & baroque’n’roll furniture.
