Square Meal review of The Player:
An obscure entrance ensures The Player is shielded from the attentions of all but those already in on its act, & a class act it is. This rat pack-style den is a London bar for London people, & style-conscious ones at that. The menu advises that they’ll make most cocktails, but the one caveat – ‘if it’s a Screaming Orgasm you’re after, you’re in the wrong place’ – speaks volumes. So there’s no riff-raff, just serious drinks buffs after a tipple from a list inspired by legendary mixologist Dick Bradsell. Try a Loch Mex, a monster that pits mescal, lime, honey & agave nectar with the fashionable single malt Monkey Shoulder (£6.50). There are around 20 wines & Champagnes to choose from, but we say go with the cocktails (& a plate of Spanish charcuterie) every time.
