Square Meal review of Passione:

Way before Jamie Oliver was the TV star he is today, he took his first baby-chef steps under the watchful eye of Passione’s co-owner & chef, Gennaro Contaldo, who has since become a bit of a TV personality in his own right. While Contaldo’s fame may pull in a few punters, the real trump-card of this busy, buzzy restaurant is the fresh, boldly flavoured food, which looks towards the sun-drenched Amalfi coast for inspiration. Diners praise the ‘seasonal freshness’ of the dishes, which might include juniper-cured pork served with peaches, goats’ cheese & pea shoots or ravioli filled with duck & mascarpone, topped with a zesty sauce of cinnamon, orange & sage. All this is ‘served by people who understand why you’re there: to eat, drink & enjoy yourself with friends’. In other words, Passione is ideal for a special meal, even though, at an average of £11 for a starter & £25 for a main course, its Latin charm doesn’t come cheap.
