The views are easily a match for those from Oxo Tower’s high-profile Restaurant, but the adjoining Brasserie delivers more conviviality & easier prices than its posh neighbour. Food follows a similar path, & some find the puffed-up, globe-trotting menu awash with ‘far too many ingredients & flavours’ – although there’s no arguing with a plate of plump, grilled Saudi prawns with Israeli couscous, hoummos & za’atar spice or a fresh, light dish of seared scallops with English asparagus, chorizo, sweetcorn purée & corn salsa. Desserts are a mix of classic Brit & European, such as apple & pecan tarte Tatin served with smoky Jack Daniel’s ice cream. Service is ‘considerate & unimposing’, but if the din from nearby tables becomes overwhelming, you can lose yourself in a classy bottle from the restaurant’s wine list.
