The Orangery

Location is the trump card of The Orangery, which overlooks sweeping lawns by Kensington Palace. The parkland location makes summer the best time to visit, when tables grace the terrace, but the arches & cornicing of the neoclassical interior also make for a pretty backdrop, with huge windows that ensure light & bright dining even if it’s not sunny outside. The simple Mediterranean food is done well: buffalo mozzarella with mint, peach & prosciutto is a garden-fresh combination while dressed Dorset crab with coriander & lime dressing, & slivers of seared beef on a fluffy bed of couscous with smoked chilli jelly, have the same easy appeal. Cakes – whether for pudding or afternoon tea – are a must here, washed down with pink Champagne as well as Earl Grey. Nice breakfast spot too, or grab a picnic.
