As grand as you’d expect in this grand part of town, this is a fine dining room with a strong focus on heritage. It’s named after the original phone number for Scotland Yard – Whitehall 1212 – which is just around the corner. The Anglo-French menu is similarly classic, mostly eschewing modern frills (though there’s the odd bit of sun-dried tomato & the cured Scottish salmon comes with rocket salad) & offering such delights as chateaubriand & Dover sole, with sherry trifle to finish. Service is slick & the dining room always well kept.
