Take a window seat at this friendly Thai restaurant if you can – the leafy views of Hyde Park offer a soothing backdrop to your meal. Housed within the Royal Lancaster Hotel but not governed by its iconic 1960s design, Nipa’s interiors instead bear a traditional appearance marked by wooden panels & welcoming Thai staff turned out in spotless white tunics & jaunty golden belts. Authentically fiery spicing means that diners from London’s Thai community are regular visitors &, bar the occasional misfire in the kitchen (eg a soft-shell crab that had left its flavour in the deep-fryer), the steep prices are generally warranted by the quality of the Thai salads & grilled king prawns with spicy sauce. There’s a choice of set menus for around £30, & a bottle of Chang beer is recommended to wet your whistle.
