When this glitterati-bedecked Moroccan hit Mayfair back in 1997, it fostered a taste for exotic brass lanterns, multicoloured rugs & all sorts of North African paraphernalia. It’s a designer’s
dream to be sure, although Momo is occasionally accused of being an over-priced ‘touristy’ trip. Nevertheless, the party vibe is irresistible (Madonna had her birthday bash here many moons ago)
& the food does its best to stay true to North Africa, without frightening fair-weather Marrakech Express travellers. Tagines & couscous loaded with all manner of ingredients
(chicken, lamb, preserved lemons, olives & apricots in various combinations) are the stomach-filling mainstays, although it’s worth beginning with some mezze or pastillas (cigar-shaped savoury
pastries). If you’re not completely full, continue with sticky Maghrebi sweetmeats. As a final stroke, allow mint tea – poured from a great height – to work its digestion-soothing magic. Tapas
& cocktails are served in the basement Kemia bar.
