Secreted upstairs at the Millennium Hotel, Mu has downsized considerably from its first incarnation, & now comprises a simply decorated cocktail bar with a few tables & a secluded, red room beneath an atrium – with the rest of the floor given over to hotel breakfasts & group events. Guests & others who come here to eat can graze on pan-Asian ‘tapas’, so expect prettily presented, dainty plates of delicate beef broth with a poached quail’s egg, sweet-glazed chicken yakitori, five-spiced roast pork with sautéed pak choy, & teriyaki beef salad, although the ‘Mu-style’ sushi has been let down by overcooked rice. To finish, east meets west for, say, crushed strawberries with coconut pannacotta & strawberry sorbet. Despite friendly staff & obvious attempts to create an intimate, personable dining space, the venue struggles to shake off its ‘airport lounge’ feel.
