Square Meal review of Mu:

With a new chef & moniker, Mu (formerly known as Mju) is hoping to woo Knightsbridge locals back in to its unassuming modern dining room. To those in the know, the quality of the food won’t come as a surprise – it’s long been one of the most underrated restaurants in town – but the restaurant is tucked away at the back of the hotel & all too often suffers from a woefully hushed feel. A pity, as the ambitious menu fusing classic French cooking with Asian flavours is pulled off with aplomb & the front of house team is perfectly switched-on. Seafood is a strong suit & dinner might start with Szechuan pepper-marinated salmon & rock shrimp tempura with black mustard dressing before moving on to poached lobster with seared scallops on vegetable tagliatelle & shellfish veloute, though there are robust meatier options, too. A lively programme of monthly wine dinners is a further plus.

Wine List: This is an impressive selection. Not only are the wines excellent, they have been chosen with the food in mind. The main list covers all the bases, but generally excels in the New World with an evident passion for Australia demonstrated by some rare older bottles of icon wines. The saké section is not only good but also cleverly designed to help novices work through the different styles.
