Deliverance is at hand for the ‘House of the Barrels’, for with the completion of refurbishment works at Spitalfields Market comes an end to the banging & thumping of construction noise which plagued it during 2007. It remains to be seen how this earthy Spaniard adapts to the glossily revamped market: we hope its rather grumpy authenticity continues to be prized over corporate slickness & that market visitors will tuck into tortilla Espanola, manchego cheese with quince paste & octopus a la Gallega with the same gusto that they did before, lubricated no doubt by something affordable & Spanish by the glass or bottle.
