Meson Los Barilles

An assortment of upturned wine ‘barriles’ greets you as you approach family-run Meson’s colourful, green entrance, & further encouragement comes by way of muscular jamón legs hanging from the ceiling. Pitch up at the bar for a natter & a nibble or stake your claim in the dining room. Here you might kick off with a traditional tortilla or grilled asparagus wrapped in bacon, before sampling pollo al Mesón (chicken drumsticks cooked in red peppers & chilli sauce), ham croquetas (a family recipe) or something from the list of seafood classics – steamed octopus with olive oil & paprika is a good shout. The wine list is a whistle-stop tour of Spain – the owners hail from Galicia, so the fresh, clean whites from this north-west region are a sound choice.
