Square Meal review of Le Mercury:

This rickety, three-storey eatery has long been popular for providing bargain basement meals to impecunious restaurant-goers. But its strength is also its weakness: you can’t help but feel suspicious about how they manage to do it all so cheaply, with all starters at £3.95, mains at £6.45 & puds just £2.95. Given the rock-bottom prices we’d suggest overlooking luxury items such as foie gras & duck ballotine with toasted brioche, instead opting for the less ambitious likes of wild trout fillet on crushed new potatoes. Tables are tightly packed & the primrose decor a little jaded, but it’s ideal for groups on a budget.
