Memories of China

Something that every area should have, this is a good local Chinese, decorated with elegant modern furniture & hung with large prints of Chinese scripts. The locale in question being Kensington, prices are significantly higher than the norm, but the quality of cooking is consistently high & the gracious staff are unswervingly friendly. Soft-shell crab successfully tempers crisp batter with delicate flesh & healthy doses of chilli & greens on the side, while the Three Precious Flavours of scallops, prawns & chicken came quick-fried in a smoky black bean sauce. Chicken dumplings poached in red oil (a soya-chilli sauce) were high on flavour, while a main course of Szechuan Yu-Hsiang king prawns in sea-spiced sauce was a crisp & flavourful delight. Vegetarians are likely to be disappointed, but Memories of China is a reliable reminder of why Cantonese is such a popular cuisine.
