Square Meal review of Mao Tai:

The closure of its sister restaurant in Draycott Avenue seems to have spurred this pan-Asian restaurant onto better things as it goes it alone. Newly modernised interiors come with food that goes beyond the expected. A serious dim sum selection includes a must-have duck, asparagus & shiitake dumpling, while razor clams in black beans & scallop ceviche might otherwise begin a memorable meal. Rabbit with lemongrass & garlic & red snapper with ponzu are among the menu’s more inventive options & just as satisfying as the old classic of crispy beef with chilli & carrot. The restaurant’s refusal to use MSG is much vaunted, but what really makes Mao Tai such a success story is its combination of interesting cooking, affordability & enjoyable environs. Organic sake, shochu & martinis keep the bar propped up.
